December opened with the return of Prime Rib Night at the Coach House Tavern, a consistent favorite among Bay Creek members. On Thursday, December 4, Prime Rib Night featured a special seafood addition, with crab legs offered alongside the Tavern’s signature 12-ounce prime rib cut. Members had the option to enjoy crab legs by the half or full pound, pairing them with the evening’s featured entrée for a relaxed and indulgent winter dinner.

Prime Rib Night returned again on December 11, continuing its role as a dependable midweek gathering that brings residents together in a warm, familiar setting.

On Saturday, December 13, the Coach House Tavern became the hub for live coverage of the Army vs. Navy game. With bar specials, spirited energy, and service-color pride on display, the afternoon drew strong attendance and added a lively, communal feel to the weekend.

Learning, Nature & Enrichment Programs

Bay Creek’s commitment to education and environmental stewardship was on full display in early December.

On December 3, members and guests participated in the Plant ID Hike & Sketch, a guided, slow-paced walk through Bay Creek’s diverse forests and conservation areas. Attendees learned to identify native plant species by examining leaves, bark, wood characteristics, and natural habitat. The hike also highlighted ongoing restoration efforts and natural succession within the conservation easement. Participants were encouraged to bring notebooks or sketchbooks to document their discoveries, blending learning with creativity in a setting that reflects Bay Creek’s deep connection to its natural surroundings.

On December 12, members took part in a guided Fisherman’s Island Field Trip, offering a rare opportunity to explore a federally protected barrier island that is closed to the public for most of the year. Led by National Wildlife Refuge volunteer guides, the visit followed the conclusion of shorebird breeding season and allowed participants to observe and photograph wildlife unique to this habitat. Guests also learned about the island’s military history and its connection to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, making the experience both educational and immersive.

Chesapeake Hall also hosted the 2026 Travel Inspiration Lunch & Learn: Small Luxury Ships & Extraordinary Itineraries. Led by luxury travel advisor Anna Lee, the event introduced members to a range of boutique cruise experiences and small luxury ships redefining modern travel. From sailing yachts like Le Ponant to curated voyages by Abercrombie & Kent and other premium operators, the presentation offered inspiration for future travel while maintaining a relaxed, social atmosphere over lunch.

Golf & Club Events

Golf members gathered on Saturday, December 6, for the annual Snowball Tournament on the Palmer Course. The tournament featured an 18-hole Captain’s Choice format with a 10:00 AM shotgun start and drew a strong field of players despite the winter weather.

The day delivered friendly competition, camaraderie, and a true seasonal golf atmosphere. Highlights included a hole-in-one by Ian McDonald on Palmer #4, along with Closest-to-the-Pin winners on holes #7, #12, #15, and #4. The winning team finished at 15 under par, earning top honors. Additional teams rounded out the leaderboard with close scores, underscoring the depth of participation and enthusiasm within Bay Creek’s golf community.
