Social Gatherings and Entertainment
The Coach House Tavern and other community spaces once again proved to be gathering points for members and guests. On August 15 was the Cape Charles Brewing Company Tap Takeover, where attendees sampled local craft beers through pints and tasting flights. This event offered residents the chance to discover new favorite brews while supporting a local business.
Later in the month, Martini Night returned on August 27, giving members a midweek occasion to unwind with handcrafted cocktails. Just a day earlier, on August 26, DJ JD hosted Music Bingo Night, which combined classic bingo with trivia for a lively evening that brought plenty of laughs and competition to the Tavern.
On August 20, Bay Creek hosted Cocktails and a Chat, an informal but meaningful community discussion. Residents gathered in the Chesapeake Room to hear updates from Councilwoman Tara Ashworth and newly appointed Town Manager Rick Keuroglian. With a bar set up for the occasion, neighbors had the chance to learn more about town initiatives while connecting with each other.
The month closed with a favorite social tradition—Yappy Hour on August 29. Members enjoyed drinks on the patio while their dogs played with toys, ran through a pet agility course, and took home doggie bags filled with treats.
Dining Specials at the Tavern
Dining remained a highlight in August, with the Coach House Tavern hosting themed nights to draw members together. Ladies Night on August 19 featured half-off appetizers and drink specials, while the Wine Promo on August 21 offered members a chance to enjoy two bottles for the price of one and a half.
Sunday, August 24, brought Sunday Funday and Prime Rib Night, which combined poolside relaxation and family activities during the day with a hearty dinner in the evening.
Golf Events and League Play
Golf is central to Bay Creek’s lifestyle, and the second half of August delivered a range of opportunities for both casual and competitive play.
On August 17, members took part in the Sunday Member Mixer Scramble, a 9-hole, 4-person team event designed to introduce players to new partners. Each team included at least one female player, with pairings arranged by the Golf Shop. Using the Golf Genius app, scores were tracked live and displayed in the Coach House. After the round, participants enjoyed tapas and prizes.
The Ladies League Play Day on August 19 featured a morning shotgun start followed by lunch from a special league menu. A week later, on August 26, a Fun Tournament Day was hosted with a relaxed 4-person scramble format. Teams were assigned randomly to encourage socializing, and the focus was on camaraderie rather than competition. Both events reflected the balance of sport and friendship that makes the league a fixture at Bay Creek.
Outdoor and Nature Activities
For those who prefer nature exploration, Bay Creek offered several outdoor programs. The Nature Talk Campfire on August 20 invited residents to gather at Base Camp for stories about the cultural and historical heritage of Cape Charles. Attendees learned about the natural environment, asked questions, and even enjoyed a few ghost stories under the night sky.
Ongoing events like the Sunset Jam, Kayak Experience, and Owl Prowl with Ranger Stan continued through late August, giving residents additional opportunities to enjoy the beauty of Bay Creek’s coastal landscape.
In addition, the long-awaited pickleball courts officially opened for play during this period. Though a few final touches were still underway, members were quick to take advantage of the new facility, which adds another option for recreation.
Life Center Programs and Family Fun
The Life Center remained a hub of daily activity, with rotating crafts, pool games, and programs for children and families.
The season reached a festive conclusion with the Labor Day Bash on August 30. Held at the Life Center pool, the event featured hotdogs, hamburgers, classic sides, music, and family-friendly games. It was a chance for residents to celebrate the end of summer together and set the tone for the upcoming fall season.
